Artists
Artists will receive a $1,000 stipend to create 50 shares for the inaugural Spring 2019 season of Community Supported Arts&Culture.
Featured works could include items such as: a limited run of screen-prints, a collection of photographs, tickets to an upcoming performance or event, letterpress editions of a poem, a short story or a zine, a special run vinyl record or mixtape, or small original paintings. Each share will include one piece from each of the CSA featured artists and may also include “bumper crop” of additional artwork and arts opportunities.
Artists must be able to produce 50 shares and must attend the end of season pick-up event to hand out completed artwork. This gives artists the opportunity to connect with patrons, get feedback on their work, and meet other local artists. Please let us know if you have a conflict with the proposed dates.
Feb 28: Call for Artist closes, all applications due
March 9: Notify artists, contract out
March 23: Contracts back
March 27: Press release announcing artists
April 5: First payment of $500 to the artist
June 1: Spring pick-up event, final payment of $500 to the artist
Preference will be given to artists that live in Salem, Oregon.
The stipend award is intended to assist with the production costs of the pieces.
What is a CSA?
Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farms. With the same buy-local spirit in mind, Community Supported Arts&Culture is a similar endeavor to support local art, artists and collectors. It’s been replicated in over thirty cities in North America over the past five years. We are seeking artists, of all disciplines, to launch our inaugural Community Supported Arts&Culture(CSA) program. Our local CSA program is modeled on the Community Supported Art project created by Springboard for the Arts and mnartists.org in Minnesota.
Benefits of the CSA program for Artists include:
• Support and revenue for the creation of new work
• Establish relationships with local collectors and patrons
• Participate in the launch of an exciting new model of art support and distribution!
For CSA Members:
• Receive multiple works from local emerging and mid-career artists at a fantastic value!
• Develop relationships with the local artists and art community
• Discover new artists and explore a variety of disciplines
• Support local artists’ careers and a vibrant community
